This weekend is Poutine Fest in Midland and PCFC will be there Friday and Saturday 11-9pm!  Come visit our booth and learn about our programs and opportunities, plus meet some of our team.  We'll have Peer Support staff there, as well as folks from our Experience & Engagement team.  Hope for sunny weather, grab some poutine and drop by for a chat.

On Thursday, June 6 after several months of helping with planning, Amber and Kayla (PCFC Staff) presented at the Waypoint Research Institute’s (WRI) Café Scientifique Event. This is a Patient Oriented Research knowledge sharing event that looked at ways of meaningfully engaging forensic patients as partners in research. Attendees ranged from PCFC to direct care staff, researchers, health leaders and patients. Amber and Kayla engaged participants in conversations about the importance of asking patients questions directly instead of making assumptions about their needs. This was followed by the sharing of consultation results that occurred with forensic patients earlier this year. The event was a huge success and it was fantastic having patients out and involved with research conversations as equal partners at the table.

Stay tuned as Kayla and Amber head to Montreal to speak alongside WRI team members at a conference about the success of this event.

PCFC’s Market Square at the main Waypoint site has been rockin’ lately with our Peer Support workers participating in conversations, activities and snacks with more than 350 clients throughout the month of May. We are excited to make our Market Square space a fun, and comfortable environment for those receiving services at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health. We share snacks with our clients Monday to Friday, and operate the canteen located in the space on weekends, in addition to running a full calendar of activities throughout the month. Some of the activities PCFC runs are: Pool, Foosball and Air Hockey games/tournaments, Karaoke and other Music activities, card games, and different arts/crafts.

Helen (PCFC Manager) was invited to speak at the E Health Conference in Vancouver, along with Dr. Andrea Waddell (Medical Director – Clinical Infomatics and Quality Standards at Waypoint) and Jeannie Borg (Director – System Innovation at Waypoint) about the successful roll out of the Patient Portal on the Georgianwood Inpatient unit at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care.

Helen spoke about the importance of engaging patients/clients throughout the roll out process, and the value of having people with lived experience gathering that patient voice and feedback.

The conference was also a great place to connect with others with lived experience in all aspects of healthcare, and Helen also spent time at the “Ask a Patient” booth, working with her peers to answer questions from people at the conference around successfully engaging those with lived experience to effect changes at the system level in healthcare.

PCFC staff Alex and Taylor were providing information at our PCFC booth for the Mental Health in Motion event held at the Community Health Hub in Midland. We were there providing information on our different services such as the groups and activities we run at our Community office, how to refer/self-refer to our Peer Support Service, and how people can get involved to share their stories and have their voice heard.
